There are multiple reasons for anybody to focus to pursue career in the field medical assistant! This is the profession which involves dedication, commitment, compassion and at the same time brings in good emotional, personal and financial satisfaction.  In thie profession, you are helping patients in need side by side with doctors and there is undoubtely a tremendous need for good medical assistants.  You would not find a single doctor's office without medical assistant.  There is an added satisfaction to contribute to patient's wellbeing.

In this field you have to be people's person.  It involves lots of communication and interaction with patients, their relatives and other medical staff.  Lots of time, medical assistant is a bridge between physician and patient and helps in collection of important data and at the same time delivers physician's message in more simple way.  While it certainly demands good work ethics and commitment, average salary in this profession is anywhere from $20k to $40k per year.  You also have option to work part time in this profession. 

In the coming years, demand for personnels who are medical assistant will continue to grow.  Due to ongoing changes in medical profession and more and more demanding patients this demand will be ever present and certainly job prospectus will continue to improve, besides healthcare industry is the one which seldom sees recession. 


In order to become medical assistant, you need to attend a school and be certified in medical assistant degree aka certified medical assistant.  There are number of schools offering this courses but due research is required to peak the right one.  Visit the community college in your area and see if they are offering the course or else you can go to one of the accredited private institution however they may charge higher fees.  Read the brochure well and discuss everything with professors and advisor before registering course or paying any fees for medical assistant school. 

The length of course is variable and it would be important to find out as some school may graduate students in shorter time while others may take longer.  You also want to thoroghly look at the content of the curicullum and then make the decision. 

Once you join the school, devote all your efforts and learn everything you can while in medical assistant school and during your practical rotations try to apply everything you learnt.  This way when you graduate you are ready to work from day one. 

In short, medical assistant is challenging yet rewarding career and provides great satisfaction.
